Art as an experience

„Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience“

This exhibition is a completely redesigned multimedia spectacle that presents the world-famous works of art by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) in a way that has never been seen before: “Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience“. The artist’s paintings are being enlarged by elaborate light installations and projections that then come to life on the walls of the presentation rooms.

Masterful art meets the most modern technology – a symbiosis that will carry Van Gogh’s genius into a new age and make it unforgettable.

After Paris, Brussels, Linz and Berlin the interactive art experience comes now to Bremen, to Dresden and to Vienna.

The concentrated colourfulness of Van Gogh's works ...

makes art more tangible for the viewer than ever before in an immersive experience!

The visitor is immersed in the works of Van Gogh in a multimedia light installation and experiences the virtual illusion as if it was reality. The paintings are brought to life intensely by huge projections and video animations combined with lyrical melodies. No detail of the famous art remains hidden from the spectator. Van Gogh’s works such as the world-famous “Sunflowers”, “The Night Café”, “Starry Night”, “The Potato Eaters” or the “Bedroom in Arles” can be experienced from a completely new perspective. The viewer is in the middle of the painting, he becomes part of the scenery, sinks into light and sound, the works of art interact with him.

At “Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience” you can find out exciting things about the background and origins of some of the world’s most famous works of art. The exhibition not only shows over 500 paintings by Van Gogh, it also explains the life of the artist who was born in 1853. His time in the monastery and the stay in Arles are just as much a part of the virtual discovery tour as the mysterious letters he wrote to his brother. It’s a 360-degree multimedia time travel through the history of one of the greatest geniuses of the past two centuries!

Art meets latest technology

What does the term “immersive” mean?

The technology for this unique art experience was developed from scratch by lighting experts. In an “immersive experience” the viewer dives into a multimedia-based illusion of image and sound and perceives it as reality – this is made possible by an innovative 3D mapping projection system. This new technology allows not only to display content on smooth surfaces but also to project graphics, animations, images and videos onto three-dimensional objects. Buildings, mountains, trees, cars, streets etc. can become a canvas. Combined with a perfectly coordinated background music and soundscape it creates a breathtaking atmosphere.
